The Sol Duc

The Sol Duc (Soul Duck), part of the handful of rivers on the Olympic Peninsula that are known for their world class Steelhead runs.  This river plays host to one of the best runs of Steelhead in the world.  One can chase hatchery fish from December to February but the main focus on these rivers over here is the world renowned trophy Steelhead that begin to enter these rivers in mid to late February.  Trips will be offered starting in March for the Duc or the Hoh (Hoe) .  Plan on getting to Forks, WA a day early because from Seattle it is about a 4 hour commute with a ferry ride in the middle of it.  Plenty of lodging is available in the town of Forks for best results try and set up a full day and a half day of fishing.  I offer both together at a discount.  Because of the ability of this river to keep its shape even with the spring rains on the coast it typically will have a majority of the pressure.  We will do what we can to avoid a majority of the pressure by timing our launch after most people have already been on the water.  This has been successful for me in the past, it opens up the river and gives you the opportunity to fish in peace and tranquility.

The day will start at varying times due to the ever changing daylight that we have in the spring.  All days will be at least 8 hours long.  On this river we will be concentrating on Steelhead holding water and fly presentation.  Because of the nature of this river it is not forgiving to the single handed rod, only Spey rods will be used.  If you are not familiar with the casting technique of the Spey rod I offer many classes though Pacific Fly Fishers, these classes will be very beneficial to the beginning Spey caster, making your chances for success greater and your overall experience on the river a memorable one.  For more infomation on trips down the Duc or for rates please contact info@northweststeelheading.com
